32 Half Square Triangles at a time

Half square triangles are one of the most versatile blocks since they can be combined to make dozens of different patterns.  Here is a traditional Birds in the Air quilt block which is made up of one large and 16 small HST's.

It's a striking block but that would be a scary number of little HST's to make for even a lap quilt.  But, if you are feeling like a challenge or if the idea of making 32 HST's (2 quilt blocks worth) at a time makes the idea more appealing you might want to watch this video tutorial.  I think I fell asleep twice while watching it so good to watch with a cup of coffee.
